Female White-Collar Crime Divas-Mordern Day Thieves
I have heard of attorneys committing crimes, but you have to be masterful to pulled off faking that you are an attorney.
Our CrimeDiva today is, Kimberly Kitchen, of Huntingdon County, PA., who was sentenced to 2-5 years for unauthorized practice of law, forgery, and felony records tampering. Ms Kitchen made our CrimeDiva list, because in my opinion you have to pretty smart and slick to have pulled off practicing as an attorney for ten years, and especially at a law firm.
According to court records, Ms. Kitchen presented an impressive resume that claimed she received a law degree, was first in her class, from Duquesne University School of Law in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She further claimed to have passed the bar exam and received her attorney license. Additionally, she claimed to have taught trust and taxation law at the Columbia University School of Law. Ms. Kitchen created and presented documents to back her claims up – only all of those documents were fake. Ms. Kitchen never went to law school, never passed the bar exam, was never licensed to practice law, and. never taught law. Yet, she was able to impress an interviewer at BMZ Law Firm to the point that she not only was hired, but worked for over ten years and made partner at the firm. It gets even better, she was appointed president of Huntingdon Bar Association. [I am truly impressed.]
The records did not provide any information of where she may have obtained her skills or knowledge of law. [Perhaps an online paralegal studies, or she maybe a smart, self-taught person.] At any rate, I find it interesting that a large law firm did not do any background check for the position.
As faith would have it, all things come to the light by chance or time and this is how Ms. Huntington faith unfolded. In 2014, another attorney was making a list of Huntingdon County Bar Association lawyers and noted that Ms.Kitchen’s bar number matched another attorney’s number. When the lie was discovered, Kitchen was dismissed by the law firm and reported to the Attorney General’s Office for investigation.
