Female White-Collar Crime Divas-Mordern Day Thieves
Here we go again . . . large company paying off the government for their criminal activities. I wonder are they willing to do the same for regular everyday citizens!?!
Though, we do not have a CrimeDiva, the action of this hospital is no less . . . criminal. According to records, Carthage Area hospital allegedly double-billed Medicare for operating room services and ambulatory services during the years 2006 through 2010 [Didn’t I just post a story a week ago of a CrimeDivas pulling practically the same game, but was awarded a prison sentence, and it took 4 whole years before the hospital was caught/ or noticed?].
The records states, Carthage Area Hospital submitted approximately 1900 claims [Wow 1900 . . . took 4 years to notice that!?!] for payment to Medicare, which improperly contained both revenue code 360 (operating room services) and revenue code 490 (ambulatory surgery).
The parties have agreed to a “civil” [meaning no one will go to prison] resolution for this case, but Carthage will pay the United States $750,000.00. While the United States was entitled to seek double or treble damages plus fines and penalties under the False Claims Act, this settlement reflects single damages (the approximate amount of the excess billing), in light of the unique circumstances of this case and the full cooperation of Carthage throughout this investigation. [That’s interesting! Have you noticed in these CrimeDivas cases I’ve posted they know the exact amount down to the last penny!]
The government is on record for stating, they wish to recognized the full cooperation of the hospital throughout the investigation. [Wow, most CrimeDivas seem to cooperate, but are sent to prison – double standards I guess!?!!]
