Female White-Collar Crime Divas-Mordern Day Thieves
What an attractive woman, not someone you would pick out the crowd to be a criminal, but if you have been following CrimeDivas most of these women don’t fit the typical profile. Most are educated and successful women who are wives, mothers, and community volunteers. Unfortunately, there’s a problem: for some it’s the greed factor, for some it’s a need situation where things such as a habit got out of control, and for some I believe there is a deeper issue at hand, which probably require medical intervention. The post today is one of those cases where a woman has been stealing from her employer for over 12 years.
Today’s CrimeDivas, Lisa Heflin Stretch, 42, of Spotsylvania County [Wow, Spotsylvania that sounds creepy] plead guilty to 12 counts of embezzlement and was escorted directly to the Rappahannock jail [No temporary get out of jail free card for her].
According to records, Ms. Stretch admitted that she stole $231,535, but investigators believe it was more like $280,632. Wow, was she really keeping track of how much she took…I really doubt it, but if she was, why?
If you have read my post of the CrimeDiva that stole $53,000,000 from the little town she was the controller, you’ll remember how she got caught….Went on vacation and while she was gone another employee accidentally ran across some questionable information, which set-off an investigation. Well, here we go again! Ms. Stretch was gone from her office manager’s position for some time and another employee went into her office looking for something (really!) and stumbled upon a W–2 for Ms. Stretch’s son, who was not working for the company that set-off an investigation. The investigation revealed that Ms. Stretch paid her son $26,000 for a three-month summer job he had with the company, much more than he should have received. She also wrote checks to herself and coded them to make it look like payments to legitimate creditors. In addition, she used company credit cards. She also stole cash weekly from the company.
As I stated early some women have situations that lead them to stealing, with Ms. Stretch her husband became unemployed [For 12 years?].
In exchange for the guilty pleas, the prosecution dropped 10 other charges.
