Female White-Collar Crime Divas-Mordern Day Thieves

Craiglist Rental Scam

This is a scary and unfortunate case. I don’t usually cross the line too criticize these women however, this woman’s actions have you wondering, especially in relation to the second crime she committed, but there’s more…read on!

Today’s CrimeDiva, Ivy Marie Valdez, 31, of Denver, CO., was arrested, convicted of theft  and sent to prison.

According to records, during the latter part of 2012 and early 2013 Ms. Valdez stole $90,000 from the company she worked for as a…you guessed it, bookkeeper. She did the usual things persons committing these white-collar crimes do–created fake information, paid herself extra money, forged signatures, and put the money in her personal account.

Now, $90,000 is pocket change compared to the vast amounts of money we usually read about most CrimeDivas taking, but to the common everyday person it is a great deal of cash.

According to records, Ms. Valdez stole this money within a four-month period. But within a month she was being evicted from her apartment for non-payment of rent. Really?!? I am assuming at this point she had lost her bookkeeper’s position. The records stated that she created an ads on Craigslist to rent an apartment out, but was actually running a scam on several people and illegally obtained over $6,000 from them.  She had these people complete fake applications for the rental units, she made up fake leases, took their money, gave them keys, and when they went to move in the keys didn’t fit and someone else was living in the units.  Once the people realized they had been ‘had’ they contacted law enforcement.

Ms. Valdez was given 8 years in prison (state time) for theft and forgery, and another 4 years for the theft scam, which she will serve concurrently with the first case.

That’s not all, investigators stated that Ms. Valdez was on ‘intensive supervision probation’ for identity theft when she committed the new offenses. She also had a similar conviction in Denver for theft from another employer.

The record did not state what made this woman do all these illegal activities, but at the rate of how fast she got the money and then not paying rent, it sounds like she may have been on drugs.  Whatever the reason hopefully she will come to her senses while doing time.
