Female White-Collar Crime Divas-Mordern Day Thieves

Alaska Woman Commit Medicaid Fraud

alas     Many of us have aging parents, or other love ones, and then there are people whom need just a little care to be able to live independently. Many elderly and disabled individuals qualify to have Personal Care Service (PCS) in their home and the provider can be a blood relative. As with any thing where money can be obtained there is always an unfortunate opportunity for fraud.
Today’s CrimeDiva, Lorie Nabong Batac, 37, of Anchorage, Alaska was found guilty of one count of felony Medical Assistance Fraud. According to information, Ms. Batac worked full-time for the city of Anchorage as a property tax assessor, [that line of work pays well], she also worked part-time at Home Depot, and then she was being paid to provided PCS to several individuals, which included her father and his wife. Well, there’s nothing wrong with that–that is if you are actually providing the services. Ms. Batac was found guilty of repeatedly billing Medicaid for services on patients when they were traveling internationally and when she was traveling to Hawaii and California.
With all the technology at officials disposal, it didn’t take much to find out the truth of the matter. It was as simple as matching up the dates and time she worked at both jobs and when she traveled with information supplied by Customs and Immigration.

Ms. Batac faces a year in jail, a decade on probation, and $64,665 in restitution payments.

I am sure that Ms. Batac and all of us can see that what she lost far outweighs what she benefited from the fraud.
