Female White-Collar Crime Divas-Mordern Day Thieves

Stealing from the church!

Isn’t this an interesting looking photograph. She’s probably someone’s grandmother. She has that kind of face that’s trusting. Unfortunately, she allegedly stole over $55,000 from the church where she’s a member.

The trusting face is today’s CrimeDiva, Evenlyn Mace, she even has a innocent sounding name, 61, of Mobile, Alabama.

According to the records, Ms. Mace, a Realtor of Prudential Cooper & Co. Inc., worked for First Independent Methodist Church as a bookkeeper [Remember that banks, real estate, and accountant/bookkeeping at prime positions for white-collar crimes; especially for females]. From 2009 – 2011 she stole from the church. Apparently, Ms. Mace had a little gambling problem – she used the money at the Mississippi Gulf Coast casinos and to pay bills.

Ms. Mace probably did not take the advice of her attorney and took this case to trial where she was convicted by her peers of  two different counts of theft – first-degree theft and first-degree theft by deception – as well as three counts of felony tax evasion. Remember when you won’t agree to a plea they charge you with everything they can, including not paying those taxes on that illegal money.

Apparently, she pissed off some folks because she had tricked the church leaders into signing blank checks and made them payable to herself or petty cash.

The two counts of theft carry sentences of five years in prison each, with each count of tax evasion carrying the possibility of two-to-twenty years.
