Female White-Collar Crime Divas-Mordern Day Thieves

Another BP Oil Spill Fraud!

abpThe Gulf of Mexico oil spill of 2010 was recorded as the worst oil spill in U.S. history. With the lost of human and marine lives there were those who illegally  took advantage of the situation for their own financial gain such as today’s CrimeDiva, Trecia Howard McGee, of Jackson, Alabama.

Ms. McGee, was convicted of  a scheme to steal more than $450,000 from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill fund. She was sentenced  to a year and a day in prison, ordered to receive mental health evaluation, forbidden to make major purchases until she pays back $459,300, and three years of supervised release.

According to court records, Ms. McGee filed a fraudulent claim in September 2010, indicating her work hours were reduced. Additionally, she assisted other  employees where she worked as a manager in filing their oil spill claims stating lost of their jobs, but none of the employees actually  lost their  jobs. Ms. McGee and other employees submitted phony termination letters.

Federal prosecutors have charged hundreds of residents involved in this oil spill of fraud.  Ms. McGee’s fraud may have caused the biggest financial loss, according to officials.

I believe  when these kinds of situations presents themselves some people lose their heads and forget about the great risk of getting caught and going to prison. But, in anything that is wrong something usually brings it to light and this is the outcome. It is easy to give in to temptation, but in the end it is far easier to do the right thing and avoid all the negative consequences that follows.
