Female White-Collar Crime Divas-Mordern Day Thieves

Greed In Another Form!?!!

Today’s CrimeDiva, Annie Dookhan, 34, of MA., was sentenced to three to five years in prison after committing and unbelievable fraud. Many are outraged that she was let off so easy after her actions had sent ten of thousands to prison for years and not only that, but destroyed countless families.

The information states that Ms. Dookhan worked in a state laboratory examining evidence in drug cases and she was considered the best because of how rapidly and penchant in delivery of the much needed drug evidence to secure a conviction. Unfortunately, her record  was based on countless criminal fabrications. She falsified numerous reports, cut corners, forged signatures, inflated her credentials (did not have a Masters degree), lied about whether she was actually testing the lab samples she received and even tampered with evidence, according to NPR.

“She just wanted to be good at her job,” she said. [That sounds like a total contradiction to me.]  What bothers me is her co-workers. whom informed authorities of the fraud, knew about it – in a way aren’t they just as guilty–just my opinion.

Ms. Dookhan plead guilty to 27 counts of evidence tampering and falsifying reports, and was sentenced to three to five years in prison. Her lawyer had asked for a lesser sentence, Ms. Dookhan is the primary caretaker for her seven-year-old son, who is disabled. [Another innocent victim].

The uncovering of this greed has sparked a wave of convicted drug criminals asking to be released, or receive new trials. The state has already spent $8 million trying to accommodate their needs, and released some 600 wrongfully convicted prisoners. And the integrity of the criminal justice system has been shaken to the core.
