Female White-Collar Crime Divas-Mordern Day Thieves
Wow, you would think that all the mortgage fraud from the recession died with the government balk-out some years back, but here were are with another major case with over $5.5.million in frauds.
Today’s CrimeDivas, Hoda Samuel, 60, of Sacramento, CA, was convicted of conspiracy to commit mortgage fraud and 30 counts of mail fraud.
Ms. Samuel was a licensed real estate broker, owned and operated Liberty Real Estate & Investment Company, which was a real estate agency and a mortgage brokerage company. According to official records from 2006 to 2007, Ms. Samuel’s company processed the sale of 30 home, all defrauded, causing a $5.5 million lost to the lending companies.
Ms. Samuel’s had employees and others to prepare loan applications , then submit the false information of a buyer’s ability to pay back loans. When the lender would call an applicant, it was an employee who pretended to be a buyer and would then verify the fake information. The offers overstated the value of the homes by tens of thousands of dollars. They even claimed that there were disabled family membesr who needed money to remodel the home to make it wheelchair accessible in order to get extra money.
Ms. Samuel is facing some serious prison time, as each count carries a maximum 20 years for each count of mail fraud.
This is really a sad situation, but it is nothing new if you have been following my posts. There are thousand and thousands of women in and on their way to prison for white-collar crimes. They have not ideal the terrible nightmare they have crossed into. Help me get the word out to others to ‘Not commit these crimes’, because prison is no joke.
