Female White-Collar Crime Divas-Mordern Day Thieves

Chinese Women sentenced in Blessing Scam

I spoke with a criminal attorney and asked him about this crime, he said he had never heard of it, nor had I.  But, it is officially a white-collar crime – the, “Blessing Scam.”

A judge sentence three Chinese women, of swindling Chinese seniors, to two years in the county jail, due to the overcrowding problem in the prisons in California.

The three were arrested at the farmers market after they approached a woman and tried to befriend her. Then they told her there was going to be calamity in her household and her  son was going to die in three days and her husband was going to get really ill. They then told her that they could scare away the evil spirits if she gave them her jewelry and cash. But, what the woman did was went to the police and led them to the thieves.

At trial one of their defense lawyers argued that the women were poor villagers who were exploited by an organized crime group and that they had difficult lives and there were certain pressures brought to bear upon them that caused them to get involved in crime. But, this was not an isolated incident, two of the women were still facing the same charges in New York and Los Angeles.

San Francisco is the first city in the country to obtain convictions on this ‘Blessing Scam’ fraud cases.

This is interested, doesn’t it sound like the fortune teller’s business.

Come back tomorrow for another unusual scam!
