Sister Steals Benefits Intended for Sister!

“What a unique gift to have someone so closely connected as a sister!” DeVine

The following story is particularly sad to me.  For one sister to have taken advantage of something meant to assist in the care of her sister . . . .

Lupe Adela Mains, 46, of Pretty Prairie was convicted of health care and mail fraud and was ordered to repay $50,242 restitution and serve one month in federal prison. Following her prison time she will serve 13 months in community confinement.

According the court records, from 2007 to 2009, Ms. Mains received Medicaid payments, which were intended for the care for her disabled sister. But an investigation uncovered that Ms. Mains was not caring for her sister at all.  In fact, the sister was residing with another family member and none of the money went towards her care. From October 2007 to March 2009, Ms. Mains fraudulently received $27,123 in Medicaid payments and $23,119 from the Railroad Retirement Board.
