Female White-Collar Crime Divas-Mordern Day Thieves
“Nothing in the world is more distasteful to a man than to take the path that leads to himself.” Hermann Hesse
I thought the above quote was befitting of this CrimeDiva. This has to be one of the most unusual cases I have came across; that is, the employer stealing from the employees, wow!
Today’s CrimeDivas is Susan B. Ellis, 53, of Indianapolis, IN. Ms. Ellis was the owner of Pharmasource Temporary Pharmacy Services. The company served as a temporary placement service for pharmacists.
According to court documents Ms. Ellis from 2001 through 2003 withheld employees’ taxes of over $2 millions, but failed to pay them to the IRS. She had not filed any of her personal income taxes for ten years, stating that she had forgotten, but meant too. Ms Ellis attempted to outsmart the government by filing for Chapter 13 in Bankruptcy Court. That angry the officials and they threw the book at her giving her 63 months in federal prison and fined her $2 million dollars in which the court ordered sale of her property to satisfy the $2 million she owed. It was stated that more legal action maybe coming.
Ms. Ellis had all the accessories of a life of luxury: furs, diamonds, expensive cars, ski boat, and a house costumed built in the riche Geist Reservoir and enough designer bags and shoes to stock a high-end boutique. The government put it all up for sale to the highest bidder: including her business, cars, boats, down to her expensive handbags. Like most CrimeDiva living the good life she went on expensive trips and ran up that American Express line of credit balance.
Ms. Ellis was a licensed pharmacist – she had a good company, unfortunately she made the wrong decision and it cost her everything including her freedom. This is the bigger picture – in the end of all the living large it comes down to a jail cell and many hurt people. Click here to read.
