Female White-Collar Crime Divas-Mordern Day Thieves
The Crime Diva of the day is Jo Benoit a.k.a Elisa Benoit, 77. Ms. Benoit, was charged with 76 counts of health care fraud, aggravated identity theft, distribution of controlled substance and distributing of these substances to minors.
According to the article, Ms. Benoit set-up a mental health clinic, posing as a doctor, wrote prescription and billed insurance companies over $500,000 for patients visits.
She was sentenced to 72 months (6 years) in a federal prison and have to pay over $422,000 in restitution, $7600 in special assessment and three years of supervised release when she released from prison.
I found this case to be distrusting because minors were involved and also the age of this woman. Why isn’t she somewhere enjoying her grandchildren? This is not the wildest case I have came across, but it does leave you wondering about the extends individuals will go to to make money.
The mission of this site is to prevent professional, educated, and career-minded females from committing white-collar crimes; to educate, and confabulate with others who have an interest in this epic situation and who has a desire to make a difference.
